Buoyed by a splendid 4-0 win over Mariupol, AZ Alkmaar will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they host Antwerp at their Cars Jeans Stadion. The Belgian club were more than fortunate to book their place in the Europa League play-offs as they defeated Viktoria Plzen after extra-time. The Eredivisie club have been in a scintillating form at the start of the season and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play against Antwerp.

Jeremejeff and Paulinho have scored the majority of Hackens goals this season and if the pair combine well on Thursday they could cause the AZ defence plenty of problems. The hosts are the favourites for obvious reasons, they play in a higher quality league and have a squad that contains many international players, but we expect Hacken to create chances of their own as they sit fourth in the Allsvenskan table with a +12 goal difference. Were confident that over 2.5 goals will be scored in Thursdays match and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1 in favour of AZ Alkmaar. Norwegian international Johnsen is likely to lead the line for AZ on Thursday and, with a season under his belt, the striker will be hoping for a much better goals return in the new campaign.

One of the men to watch in the home team will be Calvin Stengs, who found the net in the 4-0 win over Mariupol. Considering that AZ Alkmaar produce much better showings at home than on the travels, we do not believe that the Belgians are capable of grabbing something from Thursdays football game. Anyhow, we believe that home win should be considered.

18 years later AZ clinched their second Eredivisie trophy, with the team finishing the 2008/2009 campaign with 80 points, 11 clear of second-placed Twente. The Cheeseheads were founded on 10 May, 1967 and they won their first trophy in 1981, finishing the season 12 points clear of Dutch giants Ajax. In 1981 the club made it to the UEFA Cup final, but English side Ipswich Town proved to be a big catch for the Dutch team.

A man to watch in the home team will be former Dynamo Kiev attacker Mbokani, who has already netted 5 goals in the national championship this season. AZ are not regarded as good travelers, which is yet another reason why home win should be considered. The Belgians will be without suspended defender Buta in the return leg, but seeing that they have been producing fine performances in all competitions at the start of the season, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Laszlo Bolonis troops.

AZ picked up three wins and suffered three defeats in pre-season, beating the likes of Eendracht Aalst, PAOK, and Club Brugge, and losing to Gent, Telstar, and Oleksandria, but should at least have enough game time under their belts to provide the match sharpness needed to compete in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. A solitary strike from Friberg in the fifty-ninth minute proved enough for Hacken to defeat Sundsvall at the NP3 Arena on Saturday and the visitors managed to avoid picking up any injuries ahead of Thursdays 1st leg in the Netherlands.

AZ Alkmaar have had a mixed run of results in pre-season and will be hoping that they can put in a good 1st leg performance on Thursday to give them the advantage over their Swedish counterparts. Hacken are already well into their Allsvenskan campaign so sharpness is certainly not going to be a problem for the visitors but their hosts play regularly in a higher quality league and possess more international players.
