Burgess (@1.25) vs Ballina (@4.0)

Our Prediction:

Burgess will win

Burgess – Ballina Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 12:30

Another long rang Murray free and Burgess seemed to be cruising but straight from the resulting puckout Conor Kenny found himself unmarked and crashed the ball passed Niall McGrath in the Burgess goals. Peter Gill edged Burgess further in front on the 27th minute with a well taken point after a patient attacking build up but for the nest 6 minutes Borris were in the ascendancy hitting five points without reply. Two Murray frees, the second an absolute monster, had the scoreboard looking more indicative of Burgesss dominance to this point, Burgess 0-8 Borris 0-5. It has to be said though that the open two of their salvo were got from two very, very debateable frees. A half it has to be said that Burgess, for the most part dominated but bizarrely found themselves trailing in. Murray had another point from play on the 20th minute after a Borris short puckout went awry. All was not lost however and Murray free on the 35th minute had Burgess trailing by only a point at half time, Burgess 0-12 Borris 1-10.

The second half couldnt have started worse for us with our half time lead wiped out in just over a minute by a John Sheedy goal. Stephen Murray levelled things up with a 35th minute free 2-5 to 0-11 but Port once again demonstrated their attacking flair a minute later with a sweet Kevin OHalloran line ball and a Mike Sheedy point from play.

Walker and Adam Reynolds know a lot rests on their shoulders if Souths are going to get back to being mentioned in the same breath as the Storm and Roosters as premiership hotshots. Cody Walker needed to have a good game against a top team and he did that last week against Melbourne, despite the Bunnies coming up short. The pair will be looking to dominate Dogs duo Lachlan Lewis and Jack Cogger.

Our indiscipline was allowing Mullinahone back into this game. Another two pointed frees from Kelly left the score Burgess 3-8 Mullinahone 0-12 after 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Three minutes later a harsh over carrying call against Tossy gave Eoin Kelly another pointed free, this time from the middle of the field. Burgess answered that score immediately with an absolute monster of a score from Noel Gleeson. Once again straight from the throw in it was Stephen Murray got the scoring underway with fine point from 50m. Three minutes later the ever accurate Eoin Kelly replied with a pointed free for Mullinahone. A minute later though, Kellys point was more than cancelled out when Bill OFlaherty scrambled home his second goal for the day to give us a healthy 3-7 to 0-9 lead. The Mullinahone backs had failed to deal with a long range Murray free leaving Bill with a simple tap in.

The Burgess Response came by way of two Stephen Murray points, one from play the other a free. Borris had two frees themselves the first a close range free moved in for dissent and crashed to the net by Brendan Maher the second gained them a point leaving the scoreboard reading Burgess 0-14 Borris 2-12. Borris were first on the score board after half time with a well taken point.

Mullinahone, poised to go in ahead at half time, were rocked by 2 goals scored in under a minute. The first, a bullet, from Bill OFlaherty who collected a breaking ball and got inside the Mullinahone defence to blast a shot past the Mullinahone keeper. The second came almost straight from the resulting puck out when Shane Mahers hard work created an opportunity to work the ball into Damien OBrien who made no mistake in placing the ball into the Mullinahone net.

Indeed it wasnt until the disruption caused to the Burgess defence by the loss of captain Johnny Mulqueen to injury in the twentieth minute of the first half that Ballina managed to mount a come back and cut the deficit from 7 points to 2 at half time with the score board reading Burgess 0-10 Ballina 0-8. Burgess had a comfortable home win over neighbours Ballina in the opening game of the county league on Sunday last in Kilcoleman. Stephen Murrays point in the opening ten seconds of the game gave Burgess a lead that the wouldnt relinquish for the rest of the match. Burgess also had a strong claim for a penalty denied in the first half after Tossy Hogan was rugby tackled as he bore down on the Ballina goal.
