The Cratloe clubman becomes the third longest serving current inter-county football manager with only Jim Gavin and Mickey Harte ahead of him. Chairman of Clare GAA Joe Cooney told the meeting that it was brilliant news that Collins is to stay on for another year and outlined that during his time in charge, there has been huge progress for Clare football. Colm Collins will take charge of the Clare senior footballers for a 7th season after he was officially ratified in the role for the coming year. Collins was ratified for a one year term at Tuesday evenings meeting of Clare GAA where he was returned unopposed for another term in charge. 2019 saw Clare retain their status in Division Two of the National League with a dramatic victory over Tipperary on the last day of the campaign in Semple Stadium.

Clare Senior Football Championship Round Three Preview Group One Tuesday at 7.30pm in Cooraclare: St Josephs Miltown v Naomh Eoin-OCurrys This is a tie that pits the champions against the new boys as the peninsula amalgamation round off their maiden senior journey with their toughest assignment yet. There was some talk of this game being brought forward by a week to allow Naomh Eoin and OCurrys to focus on their own intermediate campaigns but that fell through. The pity here is that while it should be a game that will further add to the experience basket for the westerners, that is about all there is to it. Miltown are already safely through as champions while Joe Garrys outfit will finish bottom of the group regardless of the result.

Well done to our fantastic U9s and their manager Mike Nihill who made it to the A finals in the John Joe Nevin tournament yesterday and lost by a single point to Newport...this wont be the last we hear of this group for sure.

They won the qualifying competition on their home course before going on to win the Area Final where the first prize was an all expenses paid trip to the famous Scottish venue. East Clare Golf Club duo Rachel Whelan and Marie Donnellan are preparing to travel St Andrews next Monday where they will play the Eden Course in the Grand Final of this years tournament. It marks the latest step in their progression having only taken up the sport in 2017 through the Get into Golf programme hosted by East Clare Golf Club before joining as full members the following year. They will be representing Ireland while competing against 15 other qualifying pairs from Northern Ireland, Scotland , England and Wales. Two Clare women are set to take on one of the most renowned golf courses in the world next week as part of the Coronation Foursomes.

The way the game has gone guys are flexible enough to play in a lot of positions in the back line, guys have experience playing in different positions throughout the Munster and National League, lads were tried there last year too. Its just the way the game has gone, youre not stuck into one actual position, the way positioning and forward movement is now, you have to be comfortable regardless of position, so I dont think thats an issue for us going forward, its not really about individuals, we obviously have a core of players in key positions but I think at the same time guys are very comfortable playing in most positions. Clearys suspension means Donal Moloney and Gerry OConnor will have to start a different centre back for the first time in a competitive match this year which Tuohy insisted is not an issue.

If they get over Saturday, they might even emerge as dark horses for the Canon. If they can curb their influence on the contest then they have a chance of having a right go at it. They will be really spirited and are able to play with a bit of freedom now that relegation is out of the equation but I still think Crusheen will have too much up front, especially with the space in Cusack Park, and they should come out on top but not by much. The half-forward line for Crusheen is a strong one too with Fergus Kennedy, Ross Hayes and Conor ODonnell and they can cause trouble for any defence when they click. I think Crusheen will be happy to have Feakle in Cusack Park because the space in there might not suit the Feakle defence. The full forward line of Cillien Mullins, Paddy Vaughan and Breffni Horner is really dangerous so that is going to be a major point for Feakle to deal with. It might mean Feakle will need a sweeper back to deal with that threat and they will need to get their match-ups right.

Initially when I joined the panel, your key components were shot stopping, being as solid as you could in general play and then puckouts was something you took into account after that. His appearances have fluctuated over the years with various managements but over time, the Dell employee has observed how greater emphasis has been placed on the value of puckouts. Its probably the number one aspect now as well as all the other components of goalkeeping, it has been taken to a new level altogether. Now the way its gone, its very similar to football where possession is everything and the whole aspect of puckouts has taken a new dimension in the last three to four years.

Lest you forget, it was when Clare won the U21 Munster hurling final for the first time defeating Waterford 2-17 2-12 at Fraher Field, Dungarvan. 29th July 2009 may not ring a bell but the date is quite significant in the Clare hurling story. The summer wouldnt end there for John Minouges side and they went on to capture the All-Ireland title at the expense of Kilkenny.

It is a massive game but if Clooney-Quin get back to their best and place their team to their strengths, they can get that forward line moving. Cillian Duggan might be back too and he is an option for them at either end of the field and he will add strength. Are they going to sacrifice Steven OHalloran to pick him up, or will they look at double marking him with OHalloran and Patrick Kelly and take that chance of leaving one of the other Clooney-Quin forwards free? They will realise that Clooney-Quin have made better progress than them in recent year but they wont fear them. In those losers round games, I think Clooney-Quin will have too much for Clarecastle. The group will have that mentality that they have a chance to pick up the win here but if Clooney-Quin are organised and are hurling well, then I expect they will have just a bit too much. They might also look at deploying Jonathan Clancy as a sweeper to add another layer of protection to the backs, and that is a move they should maybe have considered the last day too. Match-ups will be vital for Clarecastle and I do know that they wont fear Clooney-Quin too much. The key question for Clarecastle is who they will put on Peter Duggan.
