Our Prediction:

Kansas City will win

Kansas City – Portland Timbers Match Prediction | 30-09-2019 19:30

Sporting KC have been at their strongest at home of late, while Portland Timbers have had their struggles on the road in recent weeks and we feel both trends will continue on Monday night in the form of a 1-0 victory for Sporting KC. Were confident that we wont see both teams score on Monday and have predicted a narrow final scoreline of 1-0 in favour of the hosts.

Against Houston, Peter Vermes ran out a 4-1-4-1, which hes only done four times this season. What you see on the right, wont be what you see on Saturday. So it begs the question: Will we see that Saturday? I could see a case for the 4-1-4-1 on the road, as its a bit more defensive but still leaves a loaded midfield. Or will he revert back to his most-used formation a 4-3-3, which hes used 24 times this season?

The 178-cm tall attacker was producing fine performances for the Scottish side from 2007 to 2013 when he moved to Derby County. The Rams booked their place in the Championship on several occassions, but they eventually failed to secure promotion to the Premier League. As a result, Johnny Russell decided to move to MLS, signing a three-year deal with Sporting Kansas city on January 31, 2018.

Portland Timbers vs Sporting Kansas City Head-to-head (h2h)

His main position is left winger, but he is capable of playing as both centre-forward and right winger as well. The Scotland international made his debut for the Wizards in the opening match of the 2019 season against New York City. Speaking of his debut for the national team, he played his first game for Scotland in November 2014 in a 3-1 loss to England.

Both teams have scored in just one of Sporting KCs last three home games as well as in just two of Portland Timbers last six matches, which explains why we doubt both teams will find the back of the net on Monday and that, along with all of the above, has lead to us backing a 1-0 win for Sporting KC.

Sporting KC lost 2-1 away at Minnesota United in midweek and will be looking forward to returning to more familiar surroundings after losing their last three away games. Portland Timbers were held to a 2-2 draw at home by New England and have failed to win any of their last four MLS games, so confidence is bound to be low within the visitors camp.

The visitors are without a win in their last four matches and have failed to score in three of those games, while Sporting KC have scored in all of their last six matches and thats why were backing them to win 1-0. The form of these two clubs hasnt been great of late but Sporting KC have won two of their last three home games and Portland Timbers have lost two of their last three away games, which adds weight to our prediction of a home win this Monday.

But with the way the Timbers have been playing, this could end up being a total crapshoot in the end. SKCs road record (3-6-4) this season isnt doing them any favors, and Providence Park is always a tough place to come and play. Sporting Kansas City is coming into the match with the knowledge that the Timbers just squeaked by Real Salt Lake and havent played as well as they should have at home.
