Our Prediction:

Wigan Warriors – Salford Red Devils Match Prediction | 20-09-2019 14:45

The Australian has been a revelation at the club since arriving back in July 2018 and also has the most carries of any player in Super League, with 342, and is currently second in the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel standings. His opposite number Hastings currently tops the try assists chart with 22 assists in just 19 Super League appearances this season, which includes assisting at least two tries in each of his last four games. If he brings his A game to the DW Stadium on Friday night, he will be difficult to stop.

You can see that there is a lot of energy, particularly in our defence which has been key at this Club. Im just really pleased with our attitude at the moment. Everyone is buying into the way we want to defend, which is a little different to last year.

Wigan Warriors

Salford start the round in 4th place where they are 6 places and 6 points ahead of Wigan who surprisingly start the round joint bottom of Super League. If Wigan can pick up a moral and confidence boosting win in this one, it could be the catalyst to move back towards the play-off battle whilst a loss could see them cemented in the relegation scrap.

Salford put in a competitive albeit error-strewn display against Castleford last week but fell just short and will now be looking to bounce back against Wigan. The Warriors still have just one win to their name and although they were better against Warrington, they could be set to taste defeat again here. The Red Devils have players to hurt Wigan and their intensity could cause problems for the Warriors who will be desperate to find a win but could come away without the win once again.

The Red Devils have won their last two league fixtures, which included an excellent 26-16 home win against Castleford Tigers last time out, with Jackson Hastings at his inspirational best. Salford will be out for revenge against Wigan and know a win could move them into fourth in the table as well as moving them two points clear of the Warriors. Salford are enjoying an excellent season under the guidance of head coach Ian Watson, who this week was named as an assistant coach to Wayne Bennett for the return of the Great Britain Lions tour this autumn.

Salford Red Devils vs Catalans Dragons

Salford have started to impress this season and the team expected to be battling out at the foot of the table have built up a small gap over the likes of Wigan but they know that if they can win this one, it will be perhaps time for Red Devils fans to start looking towards the paly-off battle rather than the relegation battle.

They now host a Salford side that currently occupy the last place in the current top 5 and should be able to overcome the Red Devils to leapfrog them. Wigan have hit form at the right time as they moved to within touching distance of a play-off spot thanks to their third straight win. That could be telling for Wigan as they look to finish in a play-off spot and they can mark their return with a win. The Warriors have improved a lot recently and now have some home games to look forward to after spending the last six weeks on the road.

Ian Watsons side will be looking recapture their earlier form and are fully aware theyre still in with a real shot of making the top four as they sit just two points behind Wakefield in 4th and one point behind Saints in 5th with both teams still left to play. Salford have had a slow start to the Super 8s losing their opening two games but have entered the final stage of the season on the back of their highest Super League finish ever.

The Red Devils attempted to fight back with tries from Kriss Brining, Junior Sau and Michael Dobson but they left themselves with too much to do. The Warriors beat Salford on the opening weekend of the season at the AJ Bell Stadium racing into a 20-0 lead at half-time with tries from Joe Burgess, George Williams, Joel Tomkins and an Oliver Gildart brace.

Its been a tough season for Shaun Wanes men but they know if they can string together a handful of wins in the coming weeks it could turn out to be another fruitful season for the Warriors. Wigan have had a mixed start to their Super 8s campaign losing to Leeds on the opening weekend but they managed to return to winning ways this past weekend with a 18-4 victory over Huddersfield.

Wigan to win by seven points. Luis departure could impact the fluidity of Salfords play and with Wigan returning to their best form in recent weeks, the Warriors could edge out the Red Devils for the third time this season. This is a tough game to predict, given the closeness of the previous two meetings between the sides this season. Level on points in the table and with both sides having won their recent fixtures, it should be a cracker at the DW Stadium on Friday night.

He has 10 tries to his name as well as 12 try assists, which includes contributing to five tries against the Red Devils this season and now looks back to his very best as he looks to propel Wigan into the top four. Williams may have made a slow start to the season but his finest performance in Super League this year did come against Salford back in March.

Shaun Wane said midweek he was equally impressed with Powell and McIlorum in their victory over Huddersfield so it will be interesting to see which of the pair begins the game and which is used as an impact interchange. Powell returned for the Warriors last weekend after being given a one-game suspension for a tackle on Red Devil Lama Tasi in last months Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final defeat.

The Warriors have enjoyed a mini resurgence in recent weeks after picking three victories on the spin for just the second time this season. They have already beaten the Red Devils twice this season, both in close encounters, and another win on Friday night will see them leapfrog Salford and could move as high as fourth in the Super League table. They were 38-22 winners last time out against Huddersfield Giants, with club captain Sean OLoughlin rolling back the years after putting in a superb display at the John Smiths Stadium.
